Sony Launches ECM-L1 Lavalier Microphone with 3.5 mm Plug-In Power Capability

Sony has introduced the ECM-L1 lavalier microphone, which builds on the highly regarded ECM-77 series known for its excellence in professional audio settings such as broadcasting studios and production companies. This new model leverages Sony’s extensive expertise in audio technology to deliver superior sound pickup, capturing every word and nuance with precision and ensuring reliable performance during extended use.

The ECM-L1 is equipped with plug-in power support and features a versatile 3.5 mm microphone input, making it compatible with a wide range of devices. Its discreet pin microphone design allows it to be worn around the collar or shirt, providing a professional appearance while maintaining clear sound capture. This makes it an ideal choice for interviews, documentaries, drama shoots, vlogging, and livestreams. As the demand for high-quality audio in video content grows, Sony continues to enhance its microphone lineup to support superior audio recording in various contexts.

High-quality sound pickup performance cultivated through professional audio technology

The ECM-L1, developed from the long-standing ECM-77 series used by broadcasters and various organizations, features a rigid ceramic fixed electrode plate in its capsule, providing superior vibration properties that ensure excellent sound quality with fast rise time and high resolution. Encased in a machined brass exterior to suppress unwanted external resonance, the microphone delivers clear, crisp sound pickup. Additionally, its high-purity oxygen-free copper (OFC) cable minimizes audio transmission loss while preserving the high sound quality.

High reliability so you can focus on recording

The microphone features a durable brass housing, designed to withstand wear and tear even during rough usage on shooting sites. A 2.2 mm diameter cable ensures breakage resistance, while a locking ring at the connection point with the recording device prevents accidental disconnection. Two types of windscreens are included to reduce wind and pop noise: a discreet metal option for a cleaner aesthetic, and a faux fur option for enhanced wind noise reduction, depending on the shooting scenario.

Plug-in power support for a wide range of connectivity

The ECM-L1 lavalier microphone has plug-in power, where power is supplied from the connected device. It can be connected1 to a wide range of devices equipped with a 3.5 mm microphone input terminal, such as cameras, smartphones, wireless microphones, IC recorders, and computers, enabling high-quality audio recording to suit the many types of use cases.

Availability

The ECM-L1 will be available in Malaysia from October 2024.
