Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Sungai Merah was the recipient of a significant donation of 500 books today, a gesture that reflects the Borneo Pickleball International Tournament’s (BPIT) commitment to fostering positive social change beyond the realm of sports.
The donation is aimed at enhancing the educational experience for the school’s 874 pupils, granting them increased access to valuable learning resources. This contribution highlights the tournament’s role in combining sportsmanship with community support.
As the largest pickleball competition ever held in Borneo, BPIT brought together athleticism and philanthropy. The event’s organiser, the Kuching Pickleball Association, partnered with BESarawak’s Books Build Legacy programme, in collaboration with The Hills Kuching shopping mall and Dayak Daily, to make this donation a reality.

Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak, shared the selection process for the beneficiary school, noting the involvement of the Malaysian Puppetry Association, the Lions Club of Sibu Seduan, and the Village Development and Security Committee of Batu 6-15 Jalan Oya. “Their local expertise helped ensure the donation was directed to the community where it would have the most meaningful impact,” she explained.
A formal handover ceremony took place at SK Ulu Sungai Merah, attended by representatives from BESarawak, the school management, the Malaysian Puppetry Association, the Lions Club of Sibu Seduan, and the Village Development and Security Committee of Batu 6-15 Jalan Oya.
