Indonesian music trio Weird Genius returns with their latest single, “Your Side,” a distinctive release that blends contemporary electronic music with the rich cultural heritage of Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Featuring powerhouse vocalist Novia Bachmid, the song marks a creative exploration of traditional Sumbanese instruments, incorporating rare sounds such as the Jungga and Dungga Roro in an effort to reintroduce traditional musical elements that are gradually fading from younger generations’ awareness. Born from a two-week cultural journey across Sumba, “Your Side” reflects Weird Genius’ commitment to reconnecting with their artistic roots while celebrating Indonesia’s diverse musical identity. The group described the project as a continuation of the spirit that shaped their debut release “DPS” in 2016. If Bali inspired their early breakthrough, Sumba now becomes the backdrop for a new sonic chapter infused with mysticism, nature, and local heritage. Adding to the track’s authenticity, traditional Sumbanese musician Umbu Haling makes a special appearance in the song’s intro, bringing an organic and magical layer to the production.
