UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has reached a significant milestone in Malaysia’s automotive landscape with the introduction of its new battery electric vehicle (BEV) lineup. This expansion of their electrified mobility portfolio underscores a long-term commitment to low-emission transportation, aligning with Toyota’s global “Multi-Pathway” approach. By integrating diverse technologies, Toyota aims to support the transition toward carbon neutrality while ensuring that mobility solutions remain practical and accessible for the everyday lives of Malaysians.

As a centerpiece of this initiative, UMWT unveiled three distinct BEV models: the Toyota bZ4X, the Urban Cruiser, and the Hilux BEV. This strategic selection broadens Toyota’s electrified offerings across passenger SUVs, urban transport, and commercial pickup segments. These models are designed to meet the evolving needs of diverse drivers and industries, embodying UMWT’s “Move Your World” philosophy—a vision focused on creating mobility solutions that foster deeper connections between people, communities, and national industries.

The launch, held at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Sim Tze Tzin. In his address, he highlighted that the introduction of these vehicles reflects the rapid evolution of Malaysia’s automotive sector into a highly integrated ecosystem of manufacturers, engineers, and technology specialists. He noted that such investments in advanced technology are crucial for strengthening local capabilities and maintaining Malaysia’s competitive edge as a regional automotive hub.

Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor, emphasized that Toyota’s electrification strategy is meticulously tailored to the specific realities of the Malaysian market. Recognizing that vehicles play a vital role in both economic growth and social connectivity, he stressed the importance of introducing electrified mobility at the right time and in ways that genuinely benefit the people. This ensures that the transition to green energy supports those who rely on dependable transport for long-distance travel and industrial operations.

Leading the new lineup is the Toyota bZ4X, a dedicated electric SUV priced from RM220,000. Developed under the “Beyond Zero” philosophy, it offers a range of up to 480 km, powered by a BEV-specific architecture and a high-efficiency eAxle system. Meanwhile, the Hilux BEV, starting at RM226,300, marks a historic first for the iconic pickup. Built on the “Tough and Agile” concept, it features advanced tools like Toyota Safety Sense 3 and Multi-Terrain Select, making it an ideal zero-emission workhorse for the logistics, construction, and agricultural sectors.

Completing the trio is the Urban Cruiser, a compact electric SUV designed for the modern city dweller, priced from RM198,000. Built under the “Urban Tech” concept, it blends bold styling with functional interiors, featuring a panoramic roof and a distinctive “squircle” steering wheel. These launches represent the next step in UMWT’s journey to provide reliable, sustainable, and accessible technology. Through its “Best in Town” commitment, UMWT continues to enhance the ownership experience with a robust nationwide service network, contributing to the global vision of a sustainable future.
