KLP48, the Kuala Lumpur-based sister group of the iconic Japanese idol group AKB48, has officially introduced its first-generation members.
After a rigorous audition process that drew in thousands of hopefuls, the final lineup has been meticulously chosen following three months of intense selection and training. Managed by 48 Entertainment Sdn Bhd under the authorization of AKB48’s overseas licensor, Superball Inc., KLP48 is not just another addition to the AKB48 family—it’s Malaysia’s first-ever all-girl idol group with ambitions to make waves on the international stage.
The debut lineup features 13 talented individuals, a diverse mix that includes 7 Malaysians, 4 Japanese, one Indonesian, and one representative from Hong Kong, China. Among them are three members transferring from AKB48 and one from Japan’s sister group STU48, bringing a blend of experience and fresh talent to the group.
Nariaki Terada, CEO of Superball Inc. and the visionary General Producer behind AKB48’s overseas sister groups, expressed his excitement, saying, “Welcoming the first-generation members of KLP48 is a thrilling moment that underscores the global appeal of AKB48 and its sister groups. We can’t wait to see KLP48 take their first steps into the spotlight and begin their journey.”
KLP48 is now the tenth international sister group in the AKB48 family, joining the ranks of JKT48 (Jakarta), BNK48 (Bangkok), MNL48 (Manila), AKB48 Team SH (Shanghai), AKB48 Team TP (Taipei), and CGM48 (Chiang Mai).

True to the AKB48 tradition, each sister group is identified by a unique color, and KLP48 proudly carries the color green. Inspired by the Malaysian jade, this color symbolizes a gentle aura, empathy, and the harmonious fusion of diverse values.

AKB48, named after its theater location in Akihabara, Tokyo, was created by music producer Yasushi Akimoto. Since its inception in 2005, the group has become a global phenomenon with its unique concept of “idols you can meet,” offering daily theater performances that foster deep connections with fans.
