Sarawak Unveils AI.LEGACY: The World’s First Intelligent Impact Management System for the Business Events Industry

Sarawak has made history as the first region in the world to introduce AI.LEGACY, an innovative intelligent impact management system designed to assess and monitor the long-term legacies of business events hosted in the state.

Developed by BESarawak in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), AI.LEGACY leverages artificial intelligence to revolutionize the way business events are evaluated, creating a data-driven approach to legacy management. The system aims to track the real-time impacts of events, providing event planners with valuable insights to make more informed decisions.

The four primary objectives of AI.LEGACY are:

  • Tracking the Real-Time Impacts of Events – Offering comprehensive, up-to-date insights on the effects of business events.
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making – Enabling event planners to use data to guide their strategies and actions.
  • AI-Enabled Data Management – Collecting, analyzing, and managing event-related data through artificial intelligence.
  • Positioning Sarawak as the Legacy Capital of Business Events – Strengthening Sarawak’s status as a global leader in business event legacy management.

“This is a groundbreaking achievement for Sarawak. After years of research, strategic investment, and experimentation, we have achieved this milestone with AI.LEGACY,” said The Hon. Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak. “We are incredibly proud to showcase this 100% locally developed system. AI.LEGACY aligns with Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 and supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals, empowering event planners to measure their contributions to these long-term objectives.”

Sarawak’s commitment to innovation is evident with the launch of AI.LEGACY, positioning the state as a leader in business event impact management and a key player in the global events industry.

BESarawak Advances with AI.LEGACY, Setting New Standards for Business Event Legacy Measurement

BESarawak is proud to announce that it has surpassed its timeline in achieving the Impact Master Action Plan 2023-2025, ensuring the continued growth and success of Sarawak’s business events sector while delivering tangible benefits to society. The introduction of AI.LEGACY, a groundbreaking intelligent impact management system, plays a pivotal role in this achievement.

Dato Sri Abang Haji Abdul Karim bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Chairman of BESarawak, emphasized the importance of this progress: “BESarawak is very pleased to be ahead of schedule in achieving the Impact Master Action Plan 2023-2025. This now ensures that the business events sector in Sarawak continues to thrive while delivering measurable benefits to society.”

Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak, drew attention to a critical global challenge in the business events sector—the need for comprehensive measurement and reporting of non-economic outcomes and legacies. “The sector has traditionally focused heavily on quantitative data, often overlooking other significant impacts that remain unreported. It’s essential to shift focus to the social, environmental, and cultural outcomes of events—an approach that AI.LEGACY is specifically designed to support,” said Roziman.

AI.LEGACY, with its automated data analysis capabilities, is set to revolutionize the way business events’ legacies are measured. The system helps planners generate detailed reports that validate their contributions and increase their chances of securing further support, such as funding and endorsements. “By simplifying processes and offering real-time insights, AI.LEGACY enables long-term strategic planning and helps maximize the overall impact of events,” she added.

Prof. Dr. Lo May Chiun, the Project Leader for AI.LEGACY and Senior Director of the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Centre at UNIMAS, expressed her enthusiasm for the project’s potential to transform not just the business events sector but also other industries. “In today’s world, where economic, social, and environmental considerations are increasingly important, AI.LEGACY is a powerful tool that allows industries to better understand and manage both their economic and non-economic benefits,” said Prof. Dr. Lo.

In addition to its impact management capabilities, AI.LEGACY also functions as a comprehensive platform for users to book legacy clinic sessions and submit applications for various awards, including the Borneo Inspires Legacy Awards 2025. The system will be available for use starting early Q3 2025.

With AI.LEGACY, Sarawak is positioned to lead the way in the evolution of business event legacy measurement, paving the path for more informed and sustainable event planning worldwide.
