Rising pop artist Salomé Das is paying a beautiful tribute to her roots with the release of her highly anticipated debut solo single, “Back 2 Malaysia.” Distributed by Def Jam Malaysia, the vibrant new track is a feel-good summer pop anthem that serves as a celebration of the tropical upbringing that completely shaped who she is today.

Though born in Munich, Salomé was raised in Kuala Lumpur from the time she was just three months old. Growing up as a third-culture child, she simultaneously absorbed French, Indian, and Malaysian traditions. While she never felt entirely claimed by any single one of them, her years growing up in Malaysia laid the foundation for her identity and creative spirit. “Back 2 Malaysia” is the musical crossroads where those diverse worlds finally come together.

The track beautifully weaves traditional Malaysian and Asian instrumentation into an infectious, high-energy global pop production. It pulses with the unique, carefree warmth of a Malaysian childhood—bringing to life the sights of the sea, the vivid colours of the landscape, the world-famous food, and a profound sense of freedom. It is a story that is bound to resonate locally and globally: the experience of leaving a place, carrying its spirit with you wherever you travel, and realizing that home is an inseparable part of your soul.

“No matter where I go in the world, I carry Malaysia with me,” Salomé explains. “Through the food, the culture, the warmth, the nature, and the carefree spirit of sun and freedom that I constantly seek out. For me, Malaysia has always felt like joy, colour, nostalgia and home. This song captures that feeling—of freedom, sunshine and coming home. The place that stays with us forever.”

Salomé’s journey to this milestone solo release has been an adventurous, winding road. A former Elite model, she spent five years living in London far from the tropical warmth of her childhood home. She first made waves on the international stage as the featured vocalist on the smash-hit track “Life is Simple,” which racked up over 90 million streams on Spotify and led her to perform at a packed stadium in Mumbai in front of 8,000 people.

After spending two years searching for the right collaborators and the perfect sonic landscape to express her personal history, everything clicked into place. Recorded in Los Angeles, “Back 2 Malaysia” felt like a true homecoming from the very first note.

Salomé’s deep connection to her upbringing is equally evident in her striking visual style. She proudly takes the stage wearing traditional batik, sarongs, and Indian jewellery, paired with her signature bindi. More than just a musician, she has become a passionate advocate for youth and a champion for Asian representation in global music, with the ultimate mission of becoming the first Indian global pop star while lifting other regional talents up with her.

“Back 2 Malaysia” is out now and available for streaming on all major digital platforms.
