The WTT Grand Smash is entering a new era as World Table Tennis (WTT) teams up with PICO, a pioneer in virtual reality, and Intel to introduce PICO x Intel WTT E Smash 2025. The competition will be staged alongside China Smash 2025 at Beijing’s Shougang Park, marking a breakthrough moment where the physical sport and digital innovation meet to redefine how table tennis can be played, viewed, and experienced.
In China, table tennis has long been woven into the nation’s sporting identity, while VR esports are quickly rising as one of the most exciting new arenas for competition. PICO x Intel WTT E Smash 2025 brings these two worlds together by pairing the history and tradition of the game with the possibilities of immersive technology. With WTT’s event expertise, PICO’s VR advancements, and Intel’s computing strength, the project is set to expand the sport’s horizons in bold new ways.
The tournament will unfold in three phases: global registration runs from August 25 to September 2, 2025, online global qualifiers follow from September 4 to September 14, and the finals take place on October 5, 2025, at Shougang Park where both the China Finals and the Global Finals will be staged side by side. Fans will also get to experience the action up close inside PICO’s dedicated zone at Shougang Park, open from September 25 to October 5, offering ten days of interactive VR experiences.
The competition will be played on Eleven Table Tennis, developed by For Fun Labs, regarded as the benchmark for VR table tennis. Its physics engine is fine-tuned to capture every spin, rally, and counter with lifelike precision, while its new Mixed Reality mode places a virtual table into real environments, transforming any space into a playing arena. With Intel ensuring powerful online performance and PICO providing the hardware and immersive systems, the event is built for global reach, stability, and accessibility.
Running in parallel, China Smash 2025 will showcase the world’s top athletes competing across five categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Together, both events create a powerful double feature where world-class athletes, gamers, and fans converge. When the energy of China Smash collides with the thrill of VR competition, and when flawless digital spins meet the passion of live competition, table tennis evolves into something greater: the birth of an entirely new stage for the sport.
