HONOR Magic9 Pro Max Brings ARRI Cinematic Technology to the Smartphone Experience

The worlds of cinema and mobile technology came together at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival as HONOR introduced the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max for the first time.

The new flagship smartphone made its debut as HONOR continues to expand its strategic imaging partnership with ARRI, a name deeply rooted in the global film industry. With more than a century of experience, ARRI has helped shape the evolution of cinema from traditional film to today’s advanced digital camera systems. Its contributions have been recognised with 20 Scientific and Technical Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The Magic9 Pro Max was showcased in a distinctive moss green finish, with an ARRI-branded camera module inspired by the design language of ARRI’s iconic cinema cameras.

The collaboration, however, goes beyond the phone’s design. Selected elements of ARRI’s professional image science and cinema workflow have been adapted for mobile use, giving creators greater flexibility when capturing and editing their content.

Among the technologies featured are ARRI LogC3, ARRI Wide Gamut 3 and ARRI Looks. ARRI LogC3 helps preserve more highlight and shadow information for post-production, while ARRI Wide Gamut 3 offers a broader colour space. ARRI Looks provides controlled cinematic colour styles for creators looking to develop their own visual style.

By combining HONOR’s expertise in mobile imaging and powerful processing with ARRI’s professional cinema experience, the partnership aims to make cinematic creation more accessible without taking away creative control.

The upcoming HONOR Magic9 Series, scheduled to launch first in China in late September, will also feature ARRI imaging capabilities.

HONOR’s presence at Venice follows its appearances at other major film events, including the Cannes Film Festival and Shanghai International Film Festival, where the HONOR Robot Phone was showcased for filmmakers and industry professionals. These appearances reflect HONOR’s continued efforts to explore new possibilities in mobile filmmaking.
