KUALA LUMPUR, 2 April – Cinema returns with renewed purpose as the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) unveils its 9th edition, taking place from 18 to 25 July 2026 in Kuala Lumpur. Announced at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Kuala Lumpur, this year’s festival embraces the theme “Resonance,” capturing the idea that films are not merely watched, but felt, remembered, and carried forward. From its grand opening at MyTOWN Shopping Centre with GSC International Screens to its growing network of global collaborations, MIFFest continues to evolve into a cultural bridge connecting stories, people, and perspectives.
At the heart of MIFFest 2026 is a belief that cinema holds the power to reflect society’s complexities while inspiring empathy and dialogue. Founder Joanne Goh describes “Resonance” as a call for storytelling that goes beyond entertainment—stories that challenge, provoke, and echo across time and geography. This vision is further amplified by a diverse ambassador line-up, including Jack Tan, Zizan Razak, Daiyan Trisha, and Bront Palarae, each representing different facets of Malaysia’s creative industry and its growing global voice.

The festival’s regional focus continues through the return of ASEAN On Screen, showcasing Southeast Asia’s vibrant cinematic identity while fostering collaboration across borders. New partnerships with international platforms such as AWFF and FEFF, alongside initiatives like Russian Film Week and AI-driven filmmaking programmes, signal MIFFest’s ambition to push creative boundaries. As audiences gather for eight days of screenings, discussions, and experiences, MIFFest 2026 invites everyone to not just watch films—but to listen to their echoes long after the credits roll.
