30 INTERNATIONAL MEDIA ARE INVITED TO BASK IN THE HOT SUN, WHITE BEACHES AND WARM WATER OF MALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 SEPTEMBER 2019: A total of 30 international media from 11 countries are in Malaysia to participate in the Mega Familiarisation programme called “Its Summertime in Malaysia – Let’s go to the Beach Visit Malaysia 2020 Edition”.

The group, here by Tourism Malaysia’s invitation, will get a first-hand feel of the attractiveness of Malaysia’s beaches and aquatic experiences, as well as other tourism products such as culture and heritage and ecoadventure.

This Mega Fam programme is designed as part of the efforts to boost the promotion of Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign, which aims to achieve 30 million international tourist arrivals and RM100 billion tourist receipts.

During the programme, the participants will be divided into three groups with three different destinations comprising Perak and Penang, Terengganu and Sabah. The main focus of this programme is to create awareness about preservation and conservation of nature through activities at the islands, i.e. visiting the SEATRU Turtle Lab at the Redang Island to learn about the sea turtle conservation.

Apart from their designated islands and beaches destination, the participants will also have the opportunity to visit several iconic places around Kuala Lumpur such as the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, KL Tower, Sultan Abdul Samad Building and Dataran Merdeka. They will also travel to other parts of Malaysiah such as Putrajaya and Melaka, Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Terengganu.

To ensure the campaign’s success, Tourism Malaysia has partnered with several private sectors such as Golden Sands Resort Penang by Shangri-La, KL Hop-On Hop-Off, Penang Global Tourism, Terengganu Tourism Department, as well as Malaysia Airlines who has hosted 30 tickets.

The Malaysia Mega Familiarisation Programme themed “It’s Summertime in Malaysia – Let’s go to the Beach Visit Malaysia 2020 Edition” sees a total of 30 international media participating from 11 countries, i.e. Australia, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan, Singapore and Viet Nam. Three media representatives from Malaysia are also taking part in the programme.

Background: The Malaysia Mega Familiarisation Programme is one of Tourism Malaysia’s key marketing initiatives. It is organised with the support from local and foreign airlines, Malaysian hotels, state governments, tourism products and shopping complexes. Through this programme, participants are given a personal experience of the myriad attractions, tourist destinations, and products and services in Malaysia and inspire and encourage them to package and write amazing stories on the country as a preferred destination for leisure and business.

In 2018, a total of 80 guests from 10 countries participated in seven Malaysia Mega Familiarisation Programmes. It generated RM3.7 million worth of commercial value from 30 published feature articles in international publications, 68 documentaries and online media broadcasts.
