Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has officially introduced the highly anticipated G 580 with EQ Technology an electrified evolution of the iconic G-Class. Staying true to its rugged, unmistakable design, the all-new electric G-Class fuses decades of off-road heritage with groundbreaking electric drive innovations, setting new benchmarks for performance, capability, and luxury in the EV segment.
Amanda Zhang, CEO & President of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, highlighted the brand’s continued push toward sustainable mobility. She described the electric G-Class as a bold milestone in the company’s journey toward its Ambition 2039 vision. Echoing that sentiment, Vice President of Marketing & Sales Nadia Trimmel emphasized that the G 580 with EQ Technology offers an uncompromised electric off-road experience with standout features like G-TURN, G-STEERING, and a maximum range of up to 473 kilometers (WLTP).
Engineered with four independently controlled electric motors mounted near each wheel, the G 580 delivers an impressive combined output of 432 kW and 1,164 Nm of torque. This setup allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds while maintaining optimal control across challenging terrains. Virtual differential locks, torque vectoring, and the ability to climb gradients of up to 100% all speak to its capability. Its battery a robust 116 kWh lithium-ion pack is integrated into the ladder frame for a low center of gravity and increased rigidity, ensuring off-road readiness.
Charging options include AC (up to 11 kW) and DC fast charging (up to 200 kW), with a 10-80% charge taking about 32 minutes. The ECO Assistant intelligently optimizes energy use by analyzing upcoming driving conditions, while multi-level recuperation boosts efficiency by recovering energy during braking and coasting.
Suspension-wise, the electric G-Class features a modified ladder frame with adaptive adjustable damping and reinforced axles, ensuring optimal stability even in extreme conditions. Additional driving support comes in the form of advanced functions like the intelligent off-road crawl, selectable driving programs through ELECTRIC DYNAMIC SELECT, and LOW RANGE gear reduction for tough terrain. The G-TURN function lets the SUV pivot almost in place on loose surfaces, while G-STEERING improves maneuverability in tight off-road spots.
Inside, the electric G-Class stays true to its luxury DNA. Premium materials, nappa leather, AMG carbon-fibre trim, and advanced tech like the MBUX infotainment system with Augmented Reality navigation and a 12.3-inch display combine comfort with connectivity. Drivers also benefit from a comprehensive OFFROAD COCKPIT that displays terrain data and vehicle metrics in real-time, enhancing control in rugged environments.
Another notable feature is the “transparent bonnet,” which, using camera feeds, provides a virtual view under the front of the vehicle to help navigate unseen obstacles. The G-ROAR system, inspired by the V8 acoustics of traditional AMG models, delivers an emotionally charged sound experience unique to this electric SUV.
The exterior retains hallmark G-Class design cues like its boxy silhouette, round headlights, and bold grille. Aerodynamics are subtly improved with refined details such as new A-pillar cladding and spoiler lips. Customers also get functional upgrades like a rectangular rear design box for tool or cable storage, or the option of a classic spare wheel.
The special EDITION ONE launch model adds exclusivity with blue detailing across the interior and exterior, limited paint options, and distinctive design enhancements. It includes MANUFAKTUR carbon-fibre accents, blue brake callipers, and custom nappa leather upholstery, reinforcing its elite status.
The all-new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology is priced from RM 958,888 in Peninsular Malaysia, while the EDITION ONE starts at RM 998,888 both prices inclusive of 10% sales tax and a complimentary wallbox with installation.
From 27th to 29th June 2025, visitors can witness the electric G-Class in action at Raintree Plaza, The Exchange TRX.
