SOFIA IMAN AND SURIA KLCC OPEN KL FASHION WEEK 2025 WITH A DAZZLING HOMAGE TO MALAYSIAN CULTURE

Sofia Iman, a brand that embodies timeless elegance and cultural heritage, made a powerful debut at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2025 with the official opening show in collaboration with Suria KLCC on Monday, 4 August. The showcase, themed Heritage Reimagined, Style Redefined, captivated an audience of 500 with a collection that celebrated the legacy of Malaysian craftsmanship through a modern lens.

The event was graced by notable figures including the Founder of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, Mr. Andrew Tan, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of KLCC Holdings Sdn Bhd, Datuk Sr Mohd. Salem Kailany. Many guests attended in traditional songket and batik, reflecting the show’s theme and paying tribute to Malaysia’s rich textile heritage.

In a unique display of unity, Sofia Iman’s vision was brought to life by eight established Malaysian designers: ABU, Ashley @ Kapas, Atelier Prive Melson, FUZA by Fuzana Mokhtaza, Jimmy Lim, Jimmy Wong, TANGOO, and Uzair Shoid. The collection honoured the master weavers of Terengganu who created the brand’s signature songket pieces, blending traditional techniques with contemporary silhouettes and presenting songket as a globally relevant fashion statement.

Francis Tan, Executive Director and CEO of Suria KLCC Sdn Bhd, described the collaboration as a proud milestone that highlighted the growth of a brand which began its journey at Suria KLCC in 2008 and has now risen to command the opening stage of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week. He emphasised Suria KLCC’s role as Malaysia’s iconic experiential shopping destination and its mission to support local talent while showcasing Malaysian creativity on the world stage. He also announced the upcoming addition of renowned fashion duo Rizman Ruzaini to the Suria KLCC family, with their boutique set to open in the third quarter of 2025.

For Sofia Iman, being selected as the opening designer of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week marked an important milestone and a validation of its mission to celebrate culture through fashion. Founder Puan Faralina Binti Abdul Wahab expressed that the showcase represented years of dedication, creativity, and a strong commitment to cultural roots. She highlighted that the brand’s presence at Suria KLCC demonstrated the demand for modern interpretations of songket that can be embraced in daily life, and opening Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2025 was an opportunity to honour artisans and share Malaysian craftsmanship with a broader audience.

The show set an inspiring tone for the week-long event, which features more than 55 Malaysian designers and brands celebrating national identity and innovation on the country’s most prestigious fashion platform.
