Genting Property Sdn Bhd, the property division of Genting Plantations Berhad, has entered into a strategic partnership with Huawei to advance the development of Johor Tech Smart City (JTSC) in Malaysia. The collaboration marks Huawei’s first international Smart Campus partnership and overseas deployment of its AI-enabled master-planning capabilities.
Formalised through a Master Planning Agreement at the Shenzhen Longgang International Art Centre in China, the partnership will see Huawei support the master planning of JTSC, including its flagship 430-acre Smart Campus within the Knowledge AI Campus. The agreement was signed in conjunction with Huawei’s “Cloud-Powered Infrastructure – A New Digital Ecosystem” event.
The collaboration brings Huawei’s artificial intelligence capabilities, technological expertise and smart campus experience into JTSC’s development. It also draws on Huawei’s experience in developing large-scale smart campuses in Shanghai and Dongguan, China, to support the planning of an integrated technology and lifestyle ecosystem in Johor.
Dato’ Indera Lim Keong Hui, Chief Executive and Executive Director of Genting Plantations, said the partnership reflects the company’s ambition to turn JTSC’s vision into a development that creates meaningful opportunities for Malaysia. Anchored by the 430-acre Smart Campus, the project aims to attract global investment, empower local talent and establish a destination for innovation.
Meanwhile, Mr. Du Xianjun, Deputy CEO of Huawei Malaysia’s Enterprise Business Group, described Genting Property as Huawei’s first international Smart Campus partner. He said the collaboration would bring Huawei’s established smart campus model beyond China and provide a new approach to developing and managing intelligent ecosystems globally.
Beyond JTSC, the partnership is expected to support broader digital transformation initiatives across the Genting Plantations Group. Potential areas of collaboration include agricultural technology, sustainable energy management and data-driven corporate infrastructure.
The development is also expected to strengthen the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) by supporting the growth of a technology hub, attracting multinational companies and advanced manufacturing investments, and encouraging knowledge sharing within the local industry.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Executive Chairman of Genting Berhad, and Mr. Ren Shulu (Steven Ren), Executive Member of Huawei’s Supervisory Board and Chief Logistics Officer.
Through this partnership, Genting Property and Huawei aim to position JTSC as a next-generation smart campus development while reinforcing Malaysia’s role in the regional digital economy.
