In a move to strengthen community bonds and promote sustainable development, Google and ChangeX have launched the Google Semarak Malaysia Fund: Selangor. This strategic partnership is aimed at providing grassroots organizations in Selangor with the resources needed to drive meaningful local change.
Under the management of ChangeX, the fund underscores Google’s commitment to being an active partner in the regions it serves. The initiative focuses on empowering residents to take ownership of progress in three vital sectors:
- Workforce Readiness: Providing grants for vocational upskilling and digital literacy to create resilient career paths.
- Economic Inclusion: Helping entrepreneurs from low-income backgrounds master the digital and financial skills necessary for modern business.
- Environmental Stewardship: Building local expertise in waste reduction and technical repair to foster a sustainable circular economy.
The fund is designed to be inclusive, offering organizations the choice to either adopt proven, successful community models or pitch their own innovative, homegrown solutions.
“Our goal is to collaborate with Selangor communities on practical, sustainable initiatives—from water stewardship to energy affordability,” said Utaukwa Allen, Global Head of Economic Development & Data Centers at Google. “We are thrilled to work alongside ChangeX to turn these community-led visions into a reality.”
Niamh McKenna, Co-founder and Head of Impact at ChangeX, emphasized the flexibility of the fund: “Together with Google, we are giving local changemakers the support to scale proven ideas while maintaining the freedom to solve the unique challenges within their own neighborhoods.”
Grants of up to RM30,000 are available for eligible schools and local organizations. All proposals must be submitted by the June 9, 2026 deadline.
