A proactive member of the Asia Convention Alliance (ACA), the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) is urging participants in business events to attend the anticipated ACA Association Forum 2023, commonly known as #ACAAF1.

Announced during a MyCEB chaired ACA Press Conference in IMEX Frankfurt 2023, members of the alliance who were present emphasise that the event aims to create a sustainable network between members and convention stakeholders as well as co-create an ACA-owned event.

The inaugural forum which is slated to be held in the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre (QSNCC), Bangkok, Thailand on 11 November 2023, expects to welcome approximately 100 delegates from the region’s 20 established associations as well as international delegates from around the globe. #ACAAF1 is anticipated to configure the foundation of this forum through its first hosting country and further provide exposure to other ACA members in particular, to the association clientele.

Noor Azlan Abu Bakar, Director – Convention & Exhibition of MyCEB expressed, “In the past, ACA members as individual entities have had great working relationships amongst each other, but the recent unprecedented industry and global challenges has further propelled us to come together and overcome difficulties as a team. ACA is a true alliance which reflects the integrity of members convening to cohesively cooperate to benefit not just member countries, but the region itself. This is what we want to achieve through the ACA Forum as it is created and spearheaded by a band of the industry’s authorities.”

In the first installation, delegates can expect key takeaways on pertinent issues addressed including Sustainability; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion or DEI and Environmental, Social and Governance, or ESG practices, of which all points to being aligned and works towards reaching the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. A credible and authoritative line of speakers have been determined and will be announced by Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB).

Nooch Homrossukhon, TCEB’s Director of Conventions said, “We are proud to announce the first collaborative effort by all ACA members where we will be organising ACAAF2023 on 11 November 2023 at QSNCC, Bangkok. Each destination will bring their associations from their destination to Bangkok in conjunction with 62nd ICCA Congress Bangkok. The forum will address how the association advances in the region and how convention bureaus like us were able to partner with associations in staging their events in respective destinations.

Also representing ACAAF#1’s host country at the press conference, Sumate Sudasna, President of Thailand Incentive & Convention Association, or TICA, added, “We are expecting to welcome 25 associations and 4 speakers during the forum, and this will be timely with Thailand hosting the ICCA congress (for the third time) which welcomes a huge presence of other destinations as well.

Young Hwan Kim, Director General of Tourism & Sports Bureau from Seoul Metropolitan Government said, “With our enduring cooperative relationship among ACA members, I am confident that this year’s ACAAF will be a tremendous success. I hope that the forum will facilitate networks among numerous institutions and organisation representatives in Asia, leading to the development for their business and fostering advancement. Also, we kindly request the participation and support for Seoul International Tavel Mart (SITM), which will take place at Seoul Dongdaemun Design Plaza this June.”

Noor Azlan concluded, “The ACA Forum is essential in many ways, and we highly look forward to the success by our neighbouring country, Thailand this year. Kudos to the team of TCEB, for taking the lead in this initiative. Malaysia will follow suit next year and we are committed to support this initiative annually through sharing our resources and market expertise that will be insightful for business events industry stakeholders to consider, implement or even improvise. We hope to see a bigger and better ACA Forum with every event in the coming years!”

  • The BMW High Voltage Expert Certification is a strategy used by BMW Group Malaysia to change how people in the country see automobile mechanics

The BMW High Voltage Expert Certification is a strategy used by BMW Group Malaysia to change how people in the country see automobile mechanics

The premium carmaker highlights the crucial role of EV technicians in advancing the wider adoption of electric cars in Malaysia in their most recent sustainability film, which reveals the inspiring tales of the individuals behind the BMW Group’s most stringent certification. The BMW High Voltage Expert (HVE) Certification course highlights the highly qualified specialists in the field of electric mobility from BMW Group Malaysia. A first-of-its-kind plan for the premium carmaker outside Munich, Germany, the globally recognised programme to further develop the local electric vehicle (EV) workforce in Malaysia is led by the BMW Group Regional Training Centre.

Hans de Visser, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia said, “At the BMW Group, we recognise that service and repair are important points of consideration for many customers of our EV portfolio, many of which have shared concerns with the lack of technical know-how in Malaysia that dampens their interest to make the switch to EVs. To ensure that our customers have greater peace of mind when it comes to the ownership of their electric vehicles, we took it upon ourselves to develop an extensive network of charging infrastructure nationwide and introduced the HVE certification here to also complement the uptake of electromobility in the past few years.”

He added, “Above all, it is the determination and passion shown by our High Voltage Experts that take this programme to greater heights – despite the level of difficulty and intensive training sessions that they must undergo to receive the certification. We hope these videos capture that spirit and goes on to inspire other local technicians to also upskill to meet the rising tide of electromobility in Malaysia.”

The latest video by BMW Group Malaysia aims to pivot traditionally held stereotypes of automotive technicians as blue-collared workers to one that recognises the high level of knowledge and technical skills required in the field of IT and electrical systems to excel in this profession. Careers in the automotive field, especially for technicians equipped with EV capabilities, is the future – and this is exemplified through the stories of three newly certified High Voltage Experts from the BMW dealership network, along with the highly-skilled trainers from the BMW Group Regional Training Centre.

The BMW High Voltage Expert is a specialised talent who works at the highest level on BMW electric vehicles. Conducted at the BMW Group Regional Training Centre in Malaysia, the programme that certifies a BMW High Voltage Expert allows for the servicing and repair of the most advanced BMW i vehicles worldwide.

In the same vein of developing the EV ecosystem in Malaysia, the premium automaker has also made over 1,000 charging facilities available in its network thus far. Access to over 400 of these facilities provided are through partnerships with ChargEV and Yinson Greentech, while the partnership with JomCharge enables access to over 100 charging facilities, Gentari with over 150 facilities as well as approximately 160 facilities from new partners such as Shell Recharge with ParkEasy, ChargeN’Go, ChargeSini, Go To-U and FlexiParking. Over 100 BMW i and MINI charging facilities are also available at most authorised dealerships, as well as partnering venues across the country, with more to come as part of the strategic infrastructure expansion plan set for the year ahead.

Part 1 of the video showcases what it takes to become a High Voltage Expert in Malaysia while Part 2 of the series demonstrates how BMW Group Malaysia is upskilling the local EV workforce and changing perceptions towards automotive technicians with the BMW High Voltage Expert certification programme.

  • Malaysia will hold commercial events for the nation at IMEX Frankfurt in 2023

Malaysia will hold commercial events for the nation at IMEX Frankfurt in 2023

In its eleventh year of participation at IMEX Frankfurt (also known as “the trade show”) this year, Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) will continue to lead and exhibit Malaysia’s thriving commercial events industry. In order to proactively engage its worldwide audience and present the nation’s new products for 2023 and beyond, the Bureau is joined by 15 industry participants, including state bureaus, prominent hotel brands, and conference centres.

Malaysia’s delegation led by YBhg. Datuk Mohd Zamri Bin Mat Zain, Deputy Secretary General (Tourism), Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia says that MyCEB is an avid supporter of the tradeshow as it is an effective platform for participants to draw attention from key parties and continuously push Malaysia as the preferred business events and international sporting events destination in Asia.

“Last year, we were able to identify 113 leads from IMEX Frankfurt and this year, we target to increase the number of this generation as we place our trust and confidence in one of the best platforms for the business events community. Our focus is to continue to create and explore new ties while strengthening existing relationships for the long term. In addition, we are looking to gain and exchange insights for better growth of the destination and industry,” he continues.

At a designated pavilion at B200, Team Malaysia will showcase the opportunity to highlight our vibrant hotels, venues, team-building offerings and experiences to key global incentive decision-makers, who are responsible for bringing in large groups that support our tourism industry and broader visitor economy. Inspired by Malaysian’s cultural heritage ‘Tekat’, Malaysia aims to produce and fabricate golden opportunities in creating a masterpiece event, which also represents the inspiration behind the overall theme for this year’s trade show. As diversity and inclusion becomes front and centre, MyCEB aspires to break all potential barriers to delegates and provide alternative ways to make the event experience rewarding for the community and nation building.

“The formation of ACA is a regional effort to rebuild and boost the business events industry and MyCEB is proud to be a contributor to the alliance. MyCEB also reveals that the Asia Convention Alliance (ACA) is conducting several key meetings during IMEX Frankfurt 2023,” says YBhg. Datuk Mohd Zamri Bin Mat Zain.

For the past year, Malaysia has seen progress in the recovery of its business events industry as the pandemic recedes, attributing to the government’s effective inoculation processes and citizens’ awareness. The nation is getting back on track as international borders reopened last year and saw an increase of tourism visitors to the country. The country’s strategy in steadily strengthening the business events industry includes vigorous promotional campaigns and international collaborations, which is already witnessing short term results of 114 business events secured from this year till 2030.

  • Sarawak introduces the first Legacy Masterplan for Business Events in Malaysia and Borneo

Sarawak introduces the first Legacy Masterplan for Business Events in Malaysia and Borneo

Sarawak unveiled the Legacy Impact Master Action Plan (Legacy MAP) 2023–2025 at IMEX Frankfurt in Germany in response to the destination’s recent declaration that it will become Malaysia and Borneo’s first legacy capital on May 12.

The Legacy MAP is a course of action for the next three years developed by Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) alongside the Sarawak Government and consultancy group, GainingEdge, to define and drive decisions about hosting business events in Sarawak. It aims to leverage the relationship between business events and legacy impact and optimise this to contribute to Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 goals.

With the business events industry being 1 of the 6 key priority sectors under tourism in Sarawak’s PCDS 2030,  the Legacy MAP is carefully designed to support the key outcomes sought by the strategy which are economic prosperity, social inclusion and environmental sustainability and help business event planners create greater value when designing event programmes.

With an action plan in hand, Sarawak will pay closer attention to events that are strategically important to the community. To achieve the greatest impact, Sarawak will actively seek events that align with the PCDS 2030 and prioritise those under the strategy’s 6 economic sectors (manufacturing, mining, agriculture, forestry, tourism and services) and 7 enabling sectors (digital, innovation, education, infrastructure, utilities, transport and renewable energy).

“We are wasting no time in establishing Sarawak as the first legacy capital for business events in Malaysia and Borneo,” said The Honourable Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Sarawak’s Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts. “With Indonesia’s new capital city in development, Sarawak is ready to seize any and all opportunities. The Legacy MAP is closely aligned with the government’s development policies therefore we are positioning business events as a frontline sector to facilitate strategic collaborations and open a host of economic and social opportunities. Legacy impact is Sarawak’s unique value proposition to the world and we believe that this transformative thinking will allow the industry to enjoy greater returns on both objectives and investments”.

The Legacy MAP changes the traditional narrative about business events only contributing to Sarawak’s economy via delegate numbers and expenses. Instead, it cements the new narrative that business events — with the vast knowledge, connections and innovations it carries — can contribute to the 5 core legacy pillars of sectoral growth, community development, environmental sustainability and good governance on top of economic impact.

A national survey conducted by BESarawak last year indicated that 93% of respondents from Malaysia’s business events industry viewed legacy as a positive move to add greater value to business events. “We have expanded our economic-based business model to include legacy because it is more sustainable as years go by,” stated Amelia Roziman, BESarawak’s CEO. “Every stakeholder group in the business events ecosystem has unique areas of interests and influence and the Legacy MAP is going to speak directly to their needs and how they can impact Sarawak’s legacy goals as well as their event goals. We aim to create value for both sides of the table – business event planners and Sarawak’s local communities. My sincerest appreciation goes to the  Sarawak Government and GainingEdge for supporting the industry throughout these years.”

Sarawak is well-versed in business events legacies having achieved numerous milestones since 2019. Some milestones include having the industry prioritised by the Sarawak Government in its development policies; hosting two ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) Congresses twice in 4 years; launching the Business Events Sarawak Legacy Initiative; creating the world’s first International Journal of Business Events and Legacies; appointing 5 business events legacy ambassadors under its Business Events Sarawak Legacy Ambassador Programme and now, the Legacy Impact Master Action Plan.

Meanwhile, at IMEX Frankfurt, Sarawak launched its first standalone pavilion in the morning themed “Business Events Support Community Development” to reflect the destination’s commitment to economic and social development. Exhibiting at the “Tribe Legacy Sarawak” pavilion by BESarawak is:

    1. Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (Venue)
    2. Place Borneo (Professional Conference Organiser)
    3. ARC Creators (Professional Conference Organiser)
    4. CPH Travel Agencies (Destination Management Company)
    5. Pullman Kuching (Venue/Hotel); Pullman Miri Waterfront (Venue/Hotel)
    6. Hemisphere Hospitality (Venue/Hotel)

  • The single “Dulu” by Zamaera, which is a compilation of her life’s experiences and inspirations, is her comeback release

The single “Dulu” by Zamaera, which is a compilation of her life’s experiences and inspirations, is her comeback release

Zamaera is a rapper, singer, and composer who is known for being consistently energising, inventive, and captivating.

The playful nature that Zamaera – given name Sharifah Zamaera Al Edros binti Syed Zafilen – exudes is evident in her previous bodies of work, including her debut single “Helly Kelly”.

With an easily recognisable image and attitude, Zamaera returns to set a new tone for her career through her latest single titled “Dulu”, which is Bahasa Malaysia for “Back Then”.

“Dulu” is described by the 28 year-old as a sonic and lyrical collection of moments and experiences in her artistic career.

Describing the process of making the song akin to flowing water, with every word reflecting her inner world, her emotions:

“ ‘Dulu’ is very special to me. It encapsulates the moments and experiences I’ve gone through as an artist since 2012 till present day. Everything that I felt, poured out of me and onto the lyrics of the song” , she says

“Many people aren’t aware that I was a singer first, before I became a rapper in 2017”, she continues.

“I was also scouted as a 9 year-old and won a storytelling competition, which was the start of my journey as a lyricist. It makes me grateful to have gone through those monumental experiences,” she adds.

She also explains the added layer of personal distinction in “Dulu” with interwoven lyrics like “Tipah Tertipu Tipu Tertipah” from local hip hop royalty Ruffedge’s hit song.

“I wanted those particular lyrics in “Dulu” because it kept ringing in my head in different phases of my personal and career life”, she explains.

“ ‘Pah’ is also short for Sharifah,” she states, having dropped an EP titled “Z” in 2019, an acronym of her own name.

According to Zamaera, “Dulu” was written in the year 2020 when she started getting acquainted with Australia-based Malaysian music producer, Wolfy.

“Dulu” is also set to have its visual story accompaniment through a music video that explains and extends the heart of the song even more.

The music video for “Dulu’”, directed by Zamaera’s old highschool mate Fitri Ayub, is set to release on the 26th of May, a week after the song is released on all streaming platforms.

“I will also be interacting with my fans on Instagram Live for the debut of the ‘Dulu’ music video and I can’t wait to meet them all”, she excitedly chimes in.

The amount of external support that has poured in for the pre-production of Zamaera’s long-awaited comeback single includes the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) (music video location) and well-known fashion designers such as Syomirizwa Gupta, Alia Bastamam and Shaleen Cheah (music video styling).

Planting her roots in the music industry at the young age of 17, Zamaera has come a long way from rolling with the biggest talents from Hip Hop such as Joe Flizzow, SonaOne and Altimet, to ultimately carving her own path as an independent female artist, now at 28 years old.

“Dulu” strikes as a strong comeback for the seasoned and skilled performer, adding to her ever growing discography which includes her previous hits such as “Get Munni”, “Jangan Salah Sangka” and “Still Callin”.

Zamaera has also gained international recognition through her performance in the Asean-Korean Music Festival Round 2020, representing her home country Malaysia.

“I also have an exciting announcement soon, but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy and appreciate ‘Dulu’’, she concludes.

  • THE GREATEST ARTIST IS THE FIRST AI MULTISENSORY DIGITAL ART EXHIBITION BUILT BY MALAYSIANS, AND THE MOSTI DEPUTY MINISTER APPLIES IT FOR BEING THE FIRST EXHIBITION TO SHOWCASE LOCAL TRADITIONS, ARTS, AND CULTURE THROUGH MODERN TECHNOLOGY

THE GREATEST ARTIST IS THE FIRST AI MULTISENSORY DIGITAL ART EXHIBITION BUILT BY MALAYSIANS, AND THE MOSTI DEPUTY MINISTER APPLIES IT FOR BEING THE FIRST EXHIBITION TO SHOWCASE LOCAL TRADITIONS, ARTS, AND CULTURE THROUGH MODERN TECHNOLOGY

FrameMotion Studio Sdn. Bhd (FrameMotion Studio), a local digital and immersive experiential studio, has established a record in the Malaysian Book of Records for creating the ‘FIRST AI MULTISENSORY DIGITAL ART EXHIBITION’ following its successful debut of ‘The Greatest Artist’ exhibition. FrameMotion Studio’s mission is to innovate Malaysia’s technological capacity through entertainment. YB Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), expressed his interest in pursuing measures that would showcase our local Malaysian traditions, culture, and arts through modern technology on a global scale after seeing the breadth of Malaysia’s capabilities in the aforementioned exhibition.

The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) has gained momentum in many entertainment services in Malaysia due to the advancement of technology worldwide. Continuing on its journey to spearhead Malaysia as a high-technology and innovative country, FrameMotion Studio was the co-organizer of the Van Gogh Alive exhibition held at Pavilion Bukit Jalil  from December 2022 to March 2023. To demonstrate Malaysia’s proficiency and advancements in AI, Frame Motion Studio took on the role to curate and produce ‘The Greatest Artist’ – a never-before-seen, fully-AI-powered, and interactive exhibition, that showcases an archive of Van Gogh, the historically acclaimed artist’s paintings through immersive experiences.

FrameMotion Studio is proud to have made Malaysia the first country to feature an AI-powered exhibition to complement the world-renowned Van Gogh Alive exhibition which has been very successful worldwide. This also reflects FrameMotion Studio’s commitment to educating visitors about the artist himself, Vincent Van Gogh, by taking them on an immersive educational experience through his life in the 1800s. In doing so, FrameMotion Studio hopes to inspire local artists and bring greater awareness to Malaysia on the importance of nurturing and supporting our local creative industry.

Mr. Jeand Pua, Chief Executive Officer of FrameMotion Studio shared, “We produced ‘The Greatest Artist’ to set the benchmark for what can be achieved while using artificial intelligence to convey inherent messages whilst portraying art. Taking inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh himself, we took it as a challenge upon ourselves to create this AI-powered exhibition so that we can encourage local players to go above and beyond the common expectations, and make a positive impact on our society.”

It took a total of one and half months and 12 individuals to curate ‘The Greatest Artist’ from the ideation to the actual deployment and commissioning of the exhibition; giving visitors a deep dive into the artist’s life history and getting a hands-on immersive Van Gogh art history experience through multiple interactive activities such as:

    1. INFINITY STARRY WALKWAY: A walkway created with LED strip installations surrounded by a mirror of the visitor’s reflection.
    • THE LIGHT OF HOPE: Feel the pulsating vibes of sunflowers inspired by Van Gogh’s masterpiece as they react to your presence, following your every move.
    • AI SELF-PORTRAIT: Portraits of visitors were created in the Post-Impressionist style of one the world’s most renowned artists, Vincent Van Gogh. As one of Asia’s first deployments of AI-generated portrait paintings, those who attended the exhibition became one of the first few in Asia to experience bringing home their own Post-Impressionist portraits!
    • SHOWER OF JOY: As flowers wither and fall, visitors were able to celebrate the significance of the event and witness flower petals swirling and landing on them, touching their souls. This was inspired by the artwork of Reiji Hiramatsu’s Nihonga paintings.

The two exhibitions became one of Malaysia’s most demanded forms of entertainment since it opened, successfully achieving a total of 150,000 tickets sold throughout the event period, with the first 100,000 tickets sold within just 5 days when the ticket sales were launched in early December.

During an exclusive visit by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), YB Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, Deputy Minister of MOSTI shared, “We are always looking for new ways to do things in line with new technology to enhance people’s experience and advance the efficiency of doing things. I believe by using technology we can enhance the experience and make it more attractive so that they are not coming here for just any visual experience in Malaysia but a more interactive one, so I am very pleased to see that there are Malaysians who are taking initiative to adopt new technology, AI, and multi-sensory elements so that we can give more spotlight to the creative industry. I hope that we can bring this technology forward to help to promote local arts and content so that we too can show the world that we are not only rich in arts and culture but we can use modern technology to promote our traditional arts and culture.”

“Malaysians do not lack the talent to adopt modern technology and what FrameMotion did is a great example of that. We need to find ways to allow more Malaysian corporations to shine and as part of the government, we aim to facilitate wherever we can to give Malaysians a platform to showcase their talent as well as for them to play a bigger role in not only the arts and culture but also the technology scene as well. I would like to see more young people get involved in technology and the local art scene, to see how we can take something so traditional like arts and culture and how we can modernize it by using the new technology that we have,” he added.

The introduction of the first AI multi-sensory digital art exhibition was aimed to revitalize the entertainment industry in Malaysia by delivering an unparalleled immersive exhibition experience, shedding light on the stigma of traditional museum visits. This advanced technology exemplified the company’s commitment to exploring the boundaries of creativity and machine intelligence through a range of cutting-edge technologies in AI-generative art technology applied to the artworks.

With the overwhelming success of ‘The Greatest Artist’ through rave online reviews and ticket sales, FrameMotion Studio is excited to develop and curate more Malaysian-made innovative experiences in the near future. In addition to this, the homegrown studio is also currently in talks with overseas partners to undergo the possibility of bringing The Greatest Artist across the globe; showcasing the talents of Malaysian corporations and furthering Malaysia’s technological capacity to greater heights.

PRNNK fokus perkasa masyarakat celik al-Quran
