The Federation of Tailors’ Guilds Malaysia (FTGM) proudly announces the upcoming 28th Congress of the Federation of Asian Master Tailors, to be hosted at the prestigious Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur from August 1st to 6th, 2024. Returning to Malaysia after an 18-year hiatus, this significant event underscores Malaysia’s steadfast commitment to excellence in bespoke tailoring and the promotion of young talents onto the global stage.
The Congress aims to attract more sponsors, exhibitions, and delegates, fostering meaningful dialogue and driving innovation within the industry. The event promises an immersive and fulfilling experience, offering a diverse range of programs from educational master classes to awe-inspiring fashion presentations.
Mr. Sam Ng Teck Yau, President of the Federation of Tailors’ Guilds Malaysia, expressed his enthusiasm for hosting this prestigious event, stating, “The 28th Congress of the Federation of Asian Master Tailors reflects Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to the artistry of bespoke tailoring and the nurturing of young talents. Anticipating participation from 6 European and 10 Asian countries, with an expected attendance of 300 delegates, we are excited to showcase the genius and innovation of our designers to a discerning global audience. This gathering not only celebrates the rich heritage of tailoring across Asia but also demonstrates our collective commitment to pushing the boundaries of creativity and proficiency in this industry.”
He added that the congress aligns with the Malaysian government’s efforts to promote kebaya, batik, and songket, as well as traditional culture, through a fashion show program featuring kebaya, batik, and songket styles aimed at promoting the unique characteristics of these traditional garments to foreign guests.
“We will also arrange for foreign guests to visit Malaysia’s tourist attractions, arts, and culture to assist the government in promoting our tourist attractions, as well as our unique and diverse arts and culture to attract more tourists to come and visit our country.”
Therefore, the Association has also invited representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) and Tourism Malaysia to attend the media conference. Mr. Sam Ng hoped that these two government departments and related ministries, as well as the media, would lend their support to the event.
He expressed his sincere gratitude to all the sponsors, MOTAC, Tourism Malaysia, Drago Lanificio in Biella, YKK Malaysia, Smart Master, Holland & Sherry, VBC, Paladino, NJB Trading, Scabal, Bagento’s Bespoke, Buttega Tesutti, Sharp Malaysia, Kim Lee, Nazrin Shah Tailor and collaboration partner Malaysian Official Designer’s Association (MODA).
YBhg. Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin, Deputy Chairman, Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board Of Directors suggested FTGM to utilise the platform of The 28th Federation of Asian Master Tailors (FAMT) Congress 2024 to explore the possibility of creating a “Fashion & Design Hub” in Malaysia. If successfully created this “fashion and design hub” in Malaysia, it means creating another platform for Malaysia’s fashion design industry to expand its market and raise the profile of the country’s fashion design industry. This is a significant achievement.
More importantly, if this new hub will be able to link up with tourism, culture and education sector, which will not only become a new tourist and cultural attraction and product for Malaysia, but will also attract more tourists, especially fashion enthusiasts to come to our country for travel and consumption, as well as create a new product for Malaysia’s education.
