The Uganda Pearl of Africa Business Forum and Expo 2025 concluded successfully at the Renaissance Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, marking a significant milestone in Uganda-Malaysia economic relations. The two-day event, held on 23–24 April, brought together government officials, industry leaders, and investors from both nations to explore opportunities for collaboration and sustainable development.
Uganda’s delegation, led by Finance Minister Hon. Matia Kasaija, included key ministers such as Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu (Energy and Mineral Development), Hon. Frank Tumwebaze (Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries), and Hon. Henry Oryem Okello (Foreign Affairs). They presented Uganda’s investment potential in sectors like agriculture, energy, mining, and tourism, emphasizing the country’s commitment to sustainable growth and value addition.
Malaysian Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu officiated a gala dinner celebrating the two countries’ friendship and trade relationship. In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of deepening economic engagement and building on the US$358.13 million in trade recorded last year.
The forum also featured discussions on enhancing logistical connectivity, including plans for direct flight routes and improved regional access. Uganda’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, Dr. Betty Oyella Bigombe, emphasized the potential for bilateral cooperation, stating that with the right framework and stakeholder support, Malaysia and Uganda can achieve significant progress in common industries.
