Sony’s VENICE Extension System Mini: Small Size, Big Impact for Creative Freedom

Sony has just unveiled the next evolution in filmmaking with the VENICE Extension System Mini (CBK-3621XS), a powerful new accessory designed to complement the award-winning VENICE 2 digital cinema camera. This ultra-compact, cutting-edge system is a game-changer for filmmakers, offering a 70% smaller footprint than its predecessor about the size of a smartphone without compromising on the legendary 8K resolution that has made the VENICE series a favorite for top filmmakers worldwide.

Filmmakers now have the freedom to shoot like never before, thanks to the VENICE Extension System Mini’s small size, durable design, and ability to fit into even the most challenging setups. Whether it’s a high-speed Formula 1 race car or a handheld action shot, the system’s flexibility ensures maximum creative control. As acclaimed Director of Photography Claudio Miranda ASC one of the first to experience this system puts it, “You can put it anywhere and still get the full resolution of a real cinema camera. It’s that flexibility without compromising quality.”

Building on the success of the Extension System 2, the VENICE Extension System Mini boasts major improvements for enhanced performance. It comes equipped with a custom drop-in ND cartridge system featuring nine glass ND filters, including a unique clear ND to seamlessly match the VENICE 2’s capabilities while keeping things compact. For rigging and mounting, the system is made even easier with a flexible, detachable connection cable and various mounting points for accessories making it ideal for filmmakers who want to push the limits of their craft.

The system is also perfect for cutting-edge techniques like stereoscopic imaging, where multiple units can be used side-by-side to create 3D imagery that replicates the natural 64mm interpupillary distance of the human eye. Beyond that, the VENICE Extension System Mini is a fantastic tool for creating VR content, VFX plates, and more, expanding the boundaries of what’s possible in both film and immersive content creation.

Sony’s VENICE series has been adopted by some of the biggest names in filmmaking, including the creators of Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, and more recent hits like Nickel Boys and The Fire Inside. With the VENICE Extension System Mini, Sony continues to push the envelope on innovation in filmmaking, providing tools that filmmakers need to create at the highest level.

The VENICE Extension System Mini (CBK-3621XS) will be showcased at the NAB Show 2025 in Las Vegas on April 6, 2025, and will be available in Malaysia starting in Q3 2025.
