As Malaysia continues to grow as a global leader in technology and innovation, PIKOM, the National Tech Association of Malaysia, is playing a pivotal role in elevating the country’s presence on the international stage. After a year of remarkable achievements in 2024, PIKOM is committed to ensuring that Malaysian businesses, startups, and tech professionals continue to excel globally, opening doors to new opportunities in 2025 and beyond.

The year 2024 was a breakthrough year for Malaysia, with the nation’s tech industry gaining considerable global recognition through prestigious awards and global events. Malaysian entities like SIDEC and Telekom Research & Development were honored at the WITSA Excellence Awards in Armenia for their contributions to digital inclusion and transformation. SIDEC won the Digital Opportunity/Inclusion Award, while Telekom R&D’s Mobile Intelligent Network Diagnostic System (MINDS) took home the Digital Transformation of the Year award.

The inaugural WITSA World Cup, a global competition for scaling startups, also saw Malaysia shine. Malaysian companies PANDAI EDUCATION and ENTOMAL BIOTECH triumphed by securing the top two spots, showcasing the nation’s growing startup ecosystem and innovation prowess. This success highlighted Malaysia’s ability to compete on the global stage and its potential to lead in areas such as education and biotech.

Meanwhile, the ASOCIO Digital Summit in Tokyo celebrated Malaysia’s outstanding contributions to digital government services, cybersecurity, and public-private partnerships, with the Ministry of Digital, Heitech Padu Berhad, and MDEC receiving high honors. These accolades reflect Malaysia’s commitment to leveraging digital technologies to boost economic growth and tackle societal challenges.

The APICTA Awards 2024 held in Brunei further underscored Malaysia’s impressive growth in the tech sector. Malaysian startups like myQuickHR and CARSOME, as well as young innovators from schools across the country, claimed recognition for their innovative contributions. myQuickHR’s AI-powered talent acquisition solution won the Artificial Intelligence category, while Meraque Services’ Hybrid AGV – RACE project earned first runner-up in the Agriculture, Supply, and Sustainability category. The success of young innovators, such as students from Wesley Methodist School and Foon Yew High School, further emphasized the importance of nurturing Malaysia’s future talent from an early age.

These victories highlight the diverse and rich talent pool in Malaysia, where tech innovation is thriving across industries—from AI and digital marketing to education and sustainable agriculture.

Looking toward 2025, PIKOM is focused on sustaining and accelerating Malaysia’s global impact in the technology sector. The association’s primary goal is to continue fostering Malaysia’s innovative spirit and facilitating international collaborations. By encouraging more Malaysian companies and individuals to participate in global competitions, PIKOM seeks to expand the nation’s digital footprint and ensure that Malaysian talent is recognized on an even greater scale.

“As we step into 2025, we are more determined than ever to highlight Malaysia’s innovation and expertise,” said Alex Liew, Chairman of PIKOM. “We aim to build on the success of 2024 and create even more opportunities for our companies and startups to compete globally. Malaysia has proven its potential, and we are committed to further advancing our position as a global tech hub.”

In 2025, PIKOM will continue to facilitate global participation, partnerships, and investment opportunities for Malaysian businesses. The focus will be on fostering innovation in emerging technologies, such as AI, cybersecurity, and digital transformation, while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainable and socially responsible development.

PIKOM urges all Malaysian tech companies, entrepreneurs, and young innovators to seize the numerous global opportunities available in 2025. These platforms offer more than just recognition—they provide valuable access to international markets, venture capital, and mentorship from leading industry experts.

“Global participation opens doors for Malaysian startups to not only showcase their products and services but also connect with potential partners, investors, and customers from around the world,” Liew added. “It’s time for Malaysia to continue shining as a leader in digital innovation and technology.”

Malaysia’s tech industry is at an exciting crossroads. With the continued support of PIKOM and other key stakeholders, the nation is well-positioned to make a lasting impact on the global tech landscape. As Malaysia’s digital economy evolves, the focus will remain on providing avenues for growth, collaboration, and global exposure.

Through collective effort and strategic participation, Malaysian companies and innovators can continue to rise as global tech leaders. PIKOM’s ongoing initiatives will ensure that the momentum from 2024 carries into 2025, helping to create an environment where Malaysian talent can thrive and excel internationally. As Malaysia prepares to enter a new year of opportunity, it is clear that the future is bright for the nation’s tech ecosystem.
