2 March 2022, Kuala Lumpur: At the Tanjung Launge, World Trade Center Kuala Lumpur, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and World Trade Center Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) today to deepen the formal relationship established between the two parties. Professor Datuk Ts. Dr Hajah Roziah Mohd Janor, Vice-Chancellor of UiTM, and Group Chief Executive Officer En. Mohd Yusri Junos signed the memorandum. Prof. Dr Mohd Salehuddin Mohd Zahari, Dean of the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management (FPHP) UiTM, and Dato’ Sri Dr Hj Irmohizam Haji Ibrahim, Group Managing Director of WTC Kuala Lumpur, were present.
“This strategic collaboration is required to strengthen industry ties to UiTM while remaining competitive in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) and Business Events Industry sectors.” WTC Kuala Lumpur is a major contributor to Malaysia’s MICE industry, and WTC has also succeeded in creating employment opportunities for prospective UiTM graduates through sustainable development in line with economic viability.” Dr. Hajah Roziah Mohd Janor, Datuk Ts. Professor Datuk Ts. Dr. Hajah Roziah Mohd Janor also expressed gratitude for the formal collaboration and hoped that it would result in many initiatives that produce productive synergies with the best academic values, particularly in bridging the knowledge and skills gap between industry and academia. The Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management at UiTM is a key player in the event management industry, having been named by QS as one of the world’s best institutions (No. 2 in Malaysia) in the field of hospitality and tourism management.
Meanwhile, Dato’ Sri Dr Hj Ibrahim stated that it is critical for the WTC Kuala Lumpur as an organisation to collaborate with such institutions of higher learning in developing new formulas to ensure the sustainability of the hospitality sector, which is currently facing human capital recovery challenges following the pandemic. “This collaboration with UiTM will not only be able to produce more skilled human capital, but will also be able to benefit from the development of both parties’ organisations,” he said.
The signing of the Memorandum also focuses on the exchange of expertise in the MICE industry, creating opportunities to arrange activities or projects that provide mutual benefits, such as conferences, short-term courses, and tourism research issues, as well as both organisations mutually promote information and related activities within the scope of this cooperation.
