PETALING JAYA, Sunway Pyramid, Saturday, 17 August 2019 — Costa Coffee opened six new stores in Malaysia, bringing the complete Costa Coffee experience and London’s favourite coffee to Malaysians. The six Costa Coffee stores are located at prominent locations of Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC), NU Sentral Mall, Sunway Pyramid, Menara Allianz, Q Sentral and MCMC Cyberjaya.
All six Costa Coffee stores offer exceptional coffees made with the brand’s signature Mocha Italia blend of beans, handcrafted to perfection by master baristas. Coffee lovers can look forward to enjoying their favourite coffees including its much loved Flat White, along with a selection of other speciality beverages. A delicious food menu featuring pastries, sandwiches and cakes will complement this experience.
The Costa Coffee stores were introduced to the Malaysian public by Gapurna Permai Sdn Bhd (GPSB), the appointed Master Franchisee of Costa Coffee stores / retail outlets for Malaysia, when the Heads of Terms Agreement was signed between Costa Coffee PLC and GPSB in March last year. GPSB is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Gapurna Group of Companies.
At the official opening of the Sunway Pyramid Costa Coffee store today, Ms Nor Izzati Tan Sri Mohamad Salim, Director of GPSB said, “We have received positive feedback from customers since the opening of our Costa Coffee stores over the last two weeks and we are very much optimistic that this world-class coffee brand will do well in Malaysia”.
She added, “GPSB has invested around RM6 million to date to set up all six Costa Coffee stores and expects to increase its investments by 2020 with more stores opening soon. Under the franchise agreement, we intend to open a total of 65 stores all over Malaysia in the next 5 years. However, we aim to achieve a lot more within the said time’. Ms Clair Preston-Beer, Managing Director of Costa Middle East & Asia, said, “Costa is delighted to partner with Gapurna Permai to successfully launch our first 6 stores in Malaysia. We have combined our latest store design with some fantastic blends of coffee, including our signature Mocha Italia blend, to create a wonderful experience for customers. We are looking forward to accelerating our growth in Malaysia to ensure that more customers have an opportunity to try a cup of Costa Coffee”.
All invited guests were invited to enjoy Costa Coffee’s delightful food and signature beverages, while getting up close and personal with the brand’s heritage, its story and its obsessive approach to crafting great coffee. Enriching the launch event experience for guests was a unique and engaging percussion performance, a speed painting performance using coffee as paint, and jovial conversations over great coffee.
In celebration of the six store openings, free coffees were given away at individual stores (up to 100 cups of coffee per day for three days on specific dates). These free coffees will continue to be given away on a first-come-first-served basis at Sunway Pyramid from 18 – 20 Aug 2019 and at Q Sentral on 27 – 29 Aug 2019.
In addition, a trio of Costa MINIs has been roaming the streets of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya, engaging with the public while giving away exclusive merchandises to commemorate the opening of the new Costa Coffee Stores. These Costa MINIs will continue to make appearances around the city and members of the public are welcome to snap photos and capture moments with them as well as post them on social media with the hashtags #celebratecoffee and #costacoffeemalaysia.
