  • Exploring the Future of Smart Manufacturing at SEMICON Southeast Asia 2026

As Southeast Asia reaches a critical inflection point in the global semiconductor industry, the Intelligent Manufacturing Showcase at SEMICON Southeast Asia 2026 will demonstrate how artificial intelligence, automation and digital solutions are transforming semiconductor manufacturing. Powered by Sandisk and SEMI, the showcase highlights intelligent manufacturing within a high-volume fabrication environment.

Designed as an immersive and guided experience rather than a static exhibition, the showcase brings visitors through a structured, step-by-step journey of how smart manufacturing is applied in a high-value semiconductor fabrication setting. Through this curated walkthrough, attendees will gain a clearer understanding of how automation, artificial intelligence and digital technologies are reshaping manufacturing processes by enhancing decision-making, improving responsiveness and optimising overall operations in advanced production environments.

The showcase unfolds across multiple stations, illustrating the industry’s progression toward an intelligent, AI-enabled factory. Visitors will experience how digital tools provide real-time visibility and enable faster operational decisions, support more efficient workflows and facilitate predictive as well as assisted troubleshooting that drives continuous improvement. These elements collectively translate complex concepts into practical, real-world applications that reflect how modern semiconductor facilities operate.

In addition, the showcase highlights several key technology areas shaping the future of manufacturing. Smart automation enables connected systems that reduce manual intervention and improve efficiency, while AI-enabled manufacturing positions artificial intelligence as an operations co-pilot that supports recommendations, detects anomalies and accelerates response times. This is complemented by the digitalisation of production data, where structured data capture and automated processes generate reliable, high-quality inputs for analytics and AI-driven insights. The showcase also emphasises human and digital collaboration, demonstrating how intelligent tools are designed to enhance the capabilities of engineers and operators rather than replace them.

Linda Tan, President of SEMI Southeast Asia, said the semiconductor industry is entering a defining phase where no single company or market can innovate in isolation. She noted that the “Transform Tomorrow” theme at SEMICON Southeast Asia 2026 reflects a collective ambition to drive real-world impact, with the Intelligent Manufacturing Showcase, developed in collaboration with Sandisk, offering a firsthand look at how AI-driven manufacturing is shaping the factories of the future.

Peng Koon Hew, Senior Director of Automation Development Engineering at Sandisk, added that manufacturing excellence today depends on how effectively organisations integrate human expertise with AI-driven insights and automated systems. He explained that this balance enables teams to make faster and better-informed decisions, respond to variability with confidence and manage complexity while maintaining control on the factory floor.

SEMICON Southeast Asia 2026 will take place from 5 to 7 May at MiTEC, Kuala Lumpur, bringing together global and regional stakeholders to shape the next phase of electronics manufacturing. Beyond serving as a platform for discussion, the event is designed to drive action by translating ideas into practical applications, with the Intelligent Manufacturing Showcase exemplifying this shift by demonstrating how transformation is already taking place across the industry.

Registration for the Intelligent Manufacturing Showcase is now open, offering attendees the opportunity to experience smart manufacturing in action on the second day of SEMICON Southeast Asia 2026. The showcase forms part of the wider event, where industry leaders will gather to explore the future of the semiconductor ecosystem throughout the three-day programme. Intelligent Manufacturing Kuala Lumpur 2025 Set to Kick Off Next Week at KLCC

Intelligent Manufacturing Kuala Lumpur (IMKL) 2025, a highly anticipated conference-led event, will take place next week from 14 to 16 May at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, this annual gathering aims to strengthen the digital capabilities of ASEAN manufacturers. Themed “Synergising Technologies and Workforce Adoption for Operational Success,” the two-day central conference will bring together over 20 industry experts, business leaders, academics, and policymakers from across eight countries to explore strategies for digital transformation across the manufacturing value chain.

The event will feature keynote sessions, panel discussions, and case studies that span topics from factory-level applications to large-scale supply chain improvements. One of the highlights includes a session by Mr James Kok from AI Singapore, who will discuss AI integration strategies under the topic “AI-First Nation: Transforming Industries Through AI.” Another standout speaker, Mr Mohamed Taher Mouni from Beyond 4.0 and the United Nations’ AISMA initiative, will explore the global challenges of implementing sustainable digitalisation projects. Mr Michael Thavarajah from Intel Corporation will delve into data governance and AI deployment in semiconductor manufacturing, while Mr Edwin Yap of Jemco Retail Fixtures will share real-world insights on human-machine collaboration in hybrid workforces and smart warehouse automation.

In addition, a dedicated panel discussion titled “Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a Catalyst for Innovation and Workforce Enhancement” will feature thought leaders such as Mr Foong Chee Mun of YTL AI Labs, Mr Jerry Zhao of Inspur Cloud, and Mr Sam Majid of the National AI Office Malaysia. They will examine the impact of AI on workforce management, operational efficiency, and innovation.

Complementing the conference, IMKL 2025 will showcase cutting-edge technologies in its product showcase area and Tech Lab, featuring brands such as Schaeffler Malaysia, Quantum Computing, and Moxo Pte Ltd. Visitors will get a hands-on look at innovations in smart manufacturing while networking with experts from various industrial sectors. The Tech Lab will offer in-depth technical demonstrations, workshops, and discussions, including two interactive sessions of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Game to promote awareness of the UN’s 17 SDGs.

A key feature this year is the debut of SPS Stage Kuala Lumpur, which connects ASEAN manufacturers with the global SPS network. Participating international companies such as Belden, Bender, Bossard, and SICK will not only present their latest solutions but also lead expert-led sessions on smart sensors, data connectivity, and intelligent factory systems.

Entry to the product showcase area and Tech Lab is free for all professionals aged 18 and above. Conference admission is ticketed, with an early bird rate of MYR 2,150 per person available until 13 May. The standard two-day package is priced at MYR 2,400, while a group purchase of three or more tickets is available at a discounted rate of MYR 1,600 per person. All fees are subject to local sales and service tax and may be claimable under the HRD Corp levy for registered Malaysian organisations. Registration is available at https://qr.messefrankfurt.com/C2390.

IMKL 2025 is endorsed by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and co-organised with the Selangor Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC). The event receives support from various associations and organisations including the Machinery and Engineering Industries Federation (MEIF), Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), Malaysia Robotics & Automation Society (MyRAS), Malaysian Rubber Products Manufacturers’ Association (MRPMA), and the National ESG Association of Malaysia.
