20 Tahun Gemilang KLCC: Menjulang Legasi, Membentuk Masa Depan

Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) menyambut ulang tahun ke-20 dengan tema “Celebrating the Past 20.

Turut diiktiraf adalah peranan penting rakan antarabangsa seperti International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC), dan Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) dalam memperkukuh kedudukan Malaysia di pentas industri acara global.

  • Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Marks 20 Years of Excellence and Future-Forward Vision

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre), Malaysia’s leading purpose-built venue for conferences, exhibitions, and events, marked its 20th anniversary on 12 June with a celebratory reception themed “Celebrating the Past 20. Shaping the Next 20.” The occasion gathered industry stakeholders, long-time partners, and loyal clients to reflect on two decades of excellence in global dialogue, economic advancement, and cultural exchange.

The evening event was hosted by celebrated singer and actress Atilia Haron, who brought her signature charm and live performances to entertain guests. The Centre’s culinary team also showcased its award-winning capabilities by serving dishes made from locally and sustainably sourced ingredients, creatively presented—some even atop custom ice sculptures.

According to John Burke, the Centre’s General Manager since 2023, the future of the venue relies heavily on its ability to adapt and respond to evolving client expectations and event formats. He highlighted how the Centre has already undergone refurbishments and redesigns to improve its spaces and services, placing strong emphasis on sustainability. As part of these efforts, the venue now runs on green energy, composts 100% of its food waste, and sources 70% of its food and beverage supply from within Malaysia.

Since opening in 2005, the Centre has hosted more than 22,000 events and welcomed over 29 million visitors, contributing RM12.6 billion to the Malaysian economy. It remains the only venue in Malaysia to have hosted multiple ASEAN Summits, including in 2005, 2015, and most recently, the 46th ASEAN Summit in May 2025. Over the years, the Centre has welcomed a range of world leaders and global figures, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, former U.S. President Barack Obama, and football icon David Beckham.

John Burke also acknowledged the contributions of the Centre’s long-serving staff members who have been part of the journey since day one, expressing heartfelt appreciation to all who have supported the Centre’s growth and reputation.

The Centre extended its gratitude to KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd for its continued trust and partnership. Operated by Convex Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd and ASM Global, the Centre also recognised its precinct collaborators within the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Business Events Alliance (KLCCBEA), including the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Impiana KLCC Hotel, Suria KLCC, and airline partners.

The celebration also included acknowledgements to institutional partners such as the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), and the Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (MACEOS), as well as international associations including ICCA, UFI, AIPC, and PCMA, for their roles in enhancing Malaysia’s global business events footprint.

To mark its 20th year, the Centre recently introduced KLCC Connects, a long-term initiative that consolidates its sustainability goals and community engagement efforts under one platform. KLCC Connects aims to encourage collaboration across industries, academia, NGOs, and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) stakeholders such as Urbanice Malaysia.

Over the past two decades, the Centre has become an iconic destination for international and regional business events, earning its place as a driving force in Malaysia’s economic and tourism sectors.

Since its opening in 2005, the Centre has hosted 21,825 events and welcomed over 29 million delegates from across the globe. The Centre’s contributions have gone beyond just hosting events; it has played a critical role in generating an economic impact of RM12.3 billion, positioning Kuala Lumpur as a key player in the global business events industry.

As the year unfolds, KLCC will continue its legacy of delivering world-class events with over 60 major conventions and exhibitions confirmed, along with more than 70 corporate meetings expected, drawing an estimated 180,000 delegates from various industries.

KLCC’s 2025 event calendar is already shaping up to be a highlight of the global business events landscape. The International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC), returning to Malaysia for the first time in 11 years from 18–20 February, marks the Centre’s strong presence in energy sector events.

Another notable milestone will be the International Vulvovaginal Disease Update (ISSVD) on 25–26 April, marking Malaysia’s first time hosting this esteemed medical conference. The IUPAC General Assembly & World Chemistry Congress, from 12–19 July, is expected to underscore KLCC’s commitment to fostering scientific advancement in a sustainable environment.

The year will conclude with the International Social Security Association’s General Assembly and World Social Security Forum (WSSF) from 6–10 October, a major event focused on social security, bringing together global experts and leaders to discuss pressing societal issues.

Sustainability is at the forefront of KLCC’s approach as it enters its 20th year. The Centre has introduced several significant upgrades, including energy-efficient meeting spaces and LED technology, to reduce its environmental footprint. One such feature is the newly installed 20.5m x 1m panoramic LED screen in the Plenary Hall, enhancing the delegate experience with stunning visuals while remaining mindful of energy consumption.

The Centre’s sustainability efforts extend beyond just technological advancements; its commitment to reducing carbon emissions is a key part of its 2025 strategy. The Centre has made a Net Zero Carbon Emissions (NZCE) pledge, with a target of 25% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. As part of this commitment, KLCC is working with its clients and partners to build a sustainable supply chain that aligns with ESG principles and contributes to long-term environmental stewardship.

As the Centre celebrates its 20th anniversary, it is not only reflecting on its past achievements but also setting the stage for an even more dynamic future. John Burke, General Manager of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, shared, “Our 20th anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on the significant milestones we’ve achieved while charting a course for continued growth. We are committed to offering an unparalleled business events experience, underpinned by innovation, sustainability, and exceptional service.”

Through continued collaborations with partners like MyCEB (Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau), the Centre aims to strengthen Malaysia’s standing as a leading global events destination.

With its extensive track record, ambitious plans for the coming year, and forward-thinking sustainability efforts, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre is poised to lead the charge in elevating Malaysia’s global presence in the business events industry, ensuring that the next 20 years will be as impactful as the first.
