The 59th National MATTA Fair recently concluded at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur, bringing together travel agencies, tourism organisations, hotels, airlines and other industry players under one platform. Held from 4 to 6 September 2026, the fair featured more than 2,000 exhibition spaces across 10 halls, with 306 participating organisations showcasing a wide range of domestic and international destinations, travel packages and tourism experiences. The event brought together 12 State Tourism Organisations (STOs) from Malaysia and 16 National Tourism Organisations (NTOs) from around the world, with Taiwan taking centre stage as the edition’s International Favourite Destination. Among the participating destinations were countries including China, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, India, Türkiye and Uzbekistan, alongside tourism offerings from destinations across Malaysia. The fair was held against the backdrop of Malaysia’s tourism growth in 2026, with the event serving as a platform for industry players to promote destinations and connect travellers with travel opportunities. Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) returned as the Official Airline Partner and Premier Sponsor, while RHB Bank served as the Official Bank Partner, offering travel-related rewards and financing options during the fair. Domestic tourism also remained an important part of the event. According to MATTA President Nigel Wong, each MATTA Fair has recorded domestic tourism sales of around RM15 million to RM16 million, reflecting continued interest among Malaysians in exploring destinations within the country. The September edition also featured initiatives to improve the visitor experience, including shuttle services and transportation support. A three-year Memorandum of Understanding between MATTA and MARA Liner was also signed to explore practical ways of improving land transportation reliability within the tourism sector. With its combination of domestic and international tourism offerings, the 59th National MATTA Fair provided a platform for travellers to explore new destinations while bringing together key players from across Malaysia’s tourism industry.
