Malaysia’s obesity challenge continues to grow, with women among the groups most affected by the condition. Recognising the urgent need for greater awareness and education, OVA, one of Malaysia’s leading licensed telehealth platforms, has launched a new campaign featuring Siti Nordiana, Diana Danielle and Shila Amzah.

The initiative aims to encourage women to take a more proactive approach towards managing their health while helping to reshape public perceptions surrounding obesity. Rather than focusing solely on appearance, the campaign highlights obesity as a complex health condition influenced by a variety of factors, including hormones, genetics, lifestyle and life-stage changes.

According to the National Health and Morbidity Survey, 54.4% of Malaysian women are currently classified as overweight or obese. The condition has been associated with numerous non-communicable diseases, including diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease, making it one of the country’s most pressing public health concerns.

Despite the growing prevalence of obesity, many women continue to face challenges when seeking medical support. Busy schedules, family commitments, social stigma and a lack of awareness often prevent individuals from seeking professional treatment at an early stage.

Speaking during the campaign launch, Tom Reynolds, Vice President of Marketing at OVA, said that many conversations about weight continue to focus on physical appearance rather than overall wellbeing.

“For too long, obesity has been viewed through a cosmetic lens. The reality is that weight management is much more complex and often requires professional support. We want women to understand that seeking help is not a sign of weakness but a positive step towards improving their health,” he said.

As part of the campaign, Siti Nordiana, Diana Danielle and Shila Amzah have chosen to share their personal experiences with weight management and the challenges they have encountered throughout different stages of their lives. Their stories reflect the realities faced by many Malaysian women balancing careers, family responsibilities and personal wellbeing.

For Siti Nordiana, motherhood and work commitments have significantly influenced her health journey. Diana Danielle spoke about the pressures of growing up in the public eye and how changes in her appearance often became topics of discussion. Meanwhile, Shila Amzah shared how becoming a mother transformed her perspective on long-term health and wellbeing.

Through OVA’s telehealth platform, women can access licensed healthcare professionals, personalised treatment plans and ongoing medical guidance from the comfort of their homes. The platform aims to remove common barriers to treatment while providing convenient access to evidence-based healthcare solutions.

With the support of these three influential women, OVA hopes to spark more open conversations around obesity, reduce stigma and encourage women across Malaysia to prioritise their health and seek the support they deserve.
