KUALA LUMPUR, 27 February 2026 – The “Chain of Civilization – Digital Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Co-Creation Initiative” brought together centuries-old craftsmanship and contemporary artistry in a spectacular showcase at LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre. Over 40 original works are on display, featuring the masterpieces of Zhou Shuying, a third-generation inheritor of Yuxian paper-cutting, and contemporary artist Cui Xiaoqing.
Zhou Shuying’s pieces, including the “Twelve Zodiac” and “Flora & Fauna of Fortune” series, showcase meticulous craftsmanship, from sketching to carving and coloring. While rooted in tradition, Zhou’s work expands paper-cutting into thematic contemporary pieces and public art spaces, bridging the gap between heritage and modern visual expression.

Cui Xiaoqing’s “Thousand-Pattern Project” reimagines traditional paper-cutting motifs and Chinese character structures through a modern design lens. The series demonstrates how folk art can inspire contemporary aesthetics, creating a dialogue between past and present. By presenting these works together, the exhibition highlights the creative possibilities that emerge when traditional techniques meet modern design innovation.
The exhibition also offers visitors a chance to understand the stories behind each artwork. From observing the intricacy of handcraft to exploring the cultural significance of the motifs, attendees can fully appreciate the skill, history, and artistry that form the foundation of these intangible heritage treasures.
