As phone theft incidents continue to rise globally, Samsung is urging Galaxy users to activate the latest anti-theft features on their devices. These enhancements reflect Samsung’s ongoing commitment to providing smarter and more robust security, helping users protect their personal data and maintain control even in high-risk situations.
With the rollout of One UI 7, Samsung has introduced significant security updates, including advanced theft protection and anti-robbery features. Initially launched with the Galaxy S25 series in February, these features are now being expanded across more Galaxy smartphones throughout the year, offering wider access to improved safety.
A key addition is the new Theft Protection suite, a multi-layered security framework designed to shield users’ data during theft or robbery scenarios. While Android’s default protections remain effective when a thief lacks access credentials, Samsung’s One UI 7 pushes the boundaries further by defending against more complex threats, including those where the PIN or biometrics may have been compromised.
Users can now enable advanced features such as Identity Check, a tool that offers intelligent and automated responses to suspicious activity. These features aim to secure sensitive data when unauthorized actions are detected, giving users crucial time and options to take back control of their devices.
Among the updated features is Theft Detection Lock, which leverages machine learning to recognize suspicious motion patterns such as snatching, instantly locking the device. Offline Device Lock automatically secures the device if it remains disconnected from a network for an extended time. Additionally, Remote Lock enables users to lock their stolen device through a phone number and verification, while also regaining access and exploring recovery steps.
One UI 7 also brings new anti-robbery tools like Identity Check’s Safe Places, requiring biometric authentication before making changes to critical settings when the device is in unfamiliar locations. This is supported by Security Delay, which introduces a one-hour buffer when there’s an attempt to reset biometric data, giving users time to act before unauthorized access can occur.
These enhanced features are now reaching more Galaxy models, including the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold6, Z Flip6, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and the S23 and S22 series. Samsung plans to continue expanding availability to additional models in future updates.
For users whose devices are lost or stolen, Samsung offers multiple remote options. To lock a device remotely, users can sign into Samsung Find, select the device, and activate Lost Mode by creating a PIN and verifying their account. A custom message can be displayed on the screen, though it’s advisable not to include personal contact details.
To erase data remotely, users can visit the Samsung Find website, select the device, verify their credentials, and confirm data deletion. This step removes all information from the phone and resets the device, making further tracking impossible another reason to regularly back up important data.
Users are also encouraged to change their Samsung and Google account passwords after a device loss. Doing so will log the user out from all connected devices, except the one currently in use, helping prevent unauthorized access to linked services and accounts.
Samsung Find can track a device’s last known location if it’s connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data. By logging into the platform, users can locate their phone on a map, ring it, extend its battery life, and enable real-time location tracking, which updates every 15 minutes.
Additional options are available through other Galaxy products. Galaxy Watch users (WearOS 5 or later) can swipe down to Quick Settings and use the Find My Phone icon. Likewise, the Galaxy Wearable app allows users to locate a Galaxy Watch, Band, or Buds with vibration, sound alerts, and beeping cues.
Samsung users can also rely on Google’s Find My Device tool for added recovery support. This service lets users change passwords, lock, ring, or wipe a device via a linked Google account.
Finally, Samsung advises users to contact law enforcement and their mobile network provider to report stolen devices and block usage. For added peace of mind, Samsung recommends considering device protection plans that cover theft, loss, and accidental damage. More details on available plans can be found at Samsung.com.
