The renowned Panggung Bandaraya KL will host Rentak Bumi 2.0, an elegant and fashionable presentation of contemporary, traditional, and modern dances by three of Malaysia’s leading dance companies, Dua Space Dance Theatre, Sutra Foundation, and DiDance, from December 16–18, 2022.
Virtually ideated and first performed last year during the several Covid lockdowns, the piecefeatured six virtual dance presentations under the title Rentak Bumi. These online presentations were created by Artistic Directors, Anthony Meh & Aman Yap (Dua Space), Datuk Ramli Ibrahim (Sutra Foundation) and Zaridah Abdul Mallik (DiDance) as part of ArtsFAS, an initiative under Yayasan Hasanah.
The online efforts succeeded in bringing, national and international awareness to the rich diversity of Malaysian dance during the challenging pandemic period. Under the continual support of ArtsFAS 2022, the dance companies will once again synergise their efforts in transforming these dance videos into a compelling live performance, this time to be called Rentak Bumi 2.0.
According to Aman Yap of Dua Space, “At Dua Space, we are extremely excited to readapt the dance videos into a live performance in Rentak Bumi 2.0 as I believe nothing can beat the charm of performing in front of a live audience to be witnessed by not just our supporters and fans, but art enthusiasts in general, and of course those that has always been curious about the magical world of dance. Rentak Bumi is a production that celebrates our friendship with Sutra Foundation and DiDance that was developed through these years of being involved in the Malaysian creative scene. We are truly honoured to be able to collaborate with these respected dance companies and together we promise you a memorable show that showcases the splendour and magnificence of our culture”.
There will also be a special lecture-demonstration entitled – ‘Behind the Making of Rentak Bumi’ – in an effort to connect with performing arts students and those interested. This special lecture-demonstration conducted by the three artistic directors offers insight into the collaborative creative efforts of the dance companies, and the narrative behind the online staging of Rentak Bumi that led to Rentak Bumi 2.0. The lecture-demonstration session is scheduled at 6 pm just prior to the last performance on 18 December 2022.
Datuk Ramli Ibrahim, Founder and Artistic Director of Sutra Foundation, fresh from his return from Konark Dance Festival in India where Sutra Foundation’s performance received rave reviews from the global dance community, said “On behalf of Sutra Foundation, Dua Space and DiDance, we invite you to witness Rentak Bumi 2.0, and welcome all students of performing arts to the specially put together sharing session with the creative minds behind the staging of Rentak Bumi. The Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and UFI, the Global Association for the Exhibition Industry, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will make it possible for Malaysian business events professionals to obtain the internationally recognised UFI Certified Professional designation (UCP) in 2023.
With courses on exhibition management and venue management, Malaysia’s new UCP training programme will be developed with and delivered by industry experts from Malaysia and beyond.
The agreement was signed by MyCEB Chief Operating Officer Noor Ahmad Hamid and UFI Managing Director & CEO Kai Hattendorf at the 89th UFI Global Congress in Muscat, Oman.
Kai Hattendorf says: “Building on UFI’s very strong relationship with MyCEB, we’re excited to jointly focus on new support for education and training for our peers in Malaysia’s business events industry. Together with such trusted international partners, we can provide professionals around the world the opportunity to learn from the best in their field, and to showcase that with the UCP designation.”
Noor Ahmad Hamid adds: UFI’s leadership in the global exhibition industry is highly respected and we value this opportunity to collaborate through this momentous MoU signed during the 89th UFI Congress. The introduction of UCP programme to the Malaysian industry players will further advance our professionalism. The UCP programme is tailored to the specific needs of exhibition organisers and venues in each region of the world where it operates. The curriculum developed under this new partnership will be designed to boost professionalism in Malaysia’s business events sector – in line with MyCEB’s work to establish a national Business Events Standard. Options may range from business development, leadership and crisis management, to digital innovation and sustainable development.
Graduates of the Malaysian programme will receive an internationally recognised UCP certification, becoming part of the dynamic global network of UFI professionals. In this way, each new business to offer the UCP programme to its employees contributes to raising industry standards worldwide.
The UCP was launched in 2021 at the request of UFI members, based on the organisation’s long experience in delivering globally relevant, regionally-adapted training for exhibition industry professionals. The UCP programme consists of two foundation programmes and a wide range of specialised modules, delivered by UFI and carefully selected educational partners.
The UCP’s modular structure enables training to be adapted to the employees of each company. As well as a ‘pick and choose’ course for individual professionals, companies benefit from in-house solutions to re-skill and up-skill their work force.

Tahun ini merupakan kali pertama Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya Padang Timur menganjurkan acara elit ini. Untuk menyaksikan acara hebat ini, beribu-ribu orang mengembara dari seluruh negara.
Apa yang menarik kali ini acara perasmian Festival ini bertemakan “Folklore” Pertunjukkan seni kebudayaan tarian Orang Asli asal negara masing masing. Acara Penutup juga julung kali ia memanggil artis tersohor tanah air Kumpulan Wings yang rata rata sudah lama bergiat dalam industri muzik sehingga kini lagu lagunya masih didengari sehingga hari ini. Ia adalah satu persembahan yang tidak akan dilupakan oleh semua penonton yang hadir di Dataran Padang Timur Petaling Jaya ini. Ia satu fenomena yang luar biasa dengan kehadiran beribu orang memenuhi ruang dihadapan pentas.
PJ Folklore 2022 mengetengah konsep kepelbagaian, keunikan, keharmonian, kesenian rakyat, budaya komuniti tempatan dan antarabangsa, perkongsian ilmu dan ketamadunannegara-negara, serta memupuk kasih sayang dan cintakan budaya negara-negara lain. Diawal sebelum perasmian satu aksi sejarah ketemadunan Kesultanan Melaka disajikan kepada penonton yang hadir dengan kebanyakkan berpakaian ala pendekar zaman melaka.
Pelbagai acara menarik telah berlangsung melibatkan persembahan kebudayaan dan pameran busana tradisional dari lapan negara, iaitu Thailand, Filipina, Indonesia – dua kumpulan dari Bandung dan Kalimantan, Sri Lanka, Korea Selatan, Jepun, Uzbekistan, dan Mexico.
Dari Malaysia sendiri menampilkan persembahan dari 10 negeri, iaitu Pulau Pinang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Sabah dan Sarawak.
Turut hadir ialah Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya Malaysia (MOTAC), Datuk Hajah Saraya Arbi; Datuk Bandar Petaling Jaya, Tuan Mohamad Azhan Md Azmir; Ahli Parlimen Petaling Jaya, Tuan Lee Chean Chung; dan Ahli Dewan Negeri Taman Medan, Tuan Syamsul Firdaus Mohamed Supri.
Menurut Mohamad Azhan, Datuk Bandar PJ Folklore 2022 juga bertujuan membantu perniagaan kecil tempatan.
“Pelbagai acara yang ditampilkan boleh membuka peluang ekonomi dan membantu industri pelancongan, makanan, dan minuman,” tambah beliau.
PJ Folklore 2022 anjuran Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) yang berlangsung dari 28 November hingga 4 Disember 2022 ini mengetengah kebudayaan dari dalam dan luar negara untuk mendokong peranan Petaling Jaya sebagai sebuah kota seni.
Di sebalik hujan yang kerap turun di sekitar Petaling Jaya, ia berjaya menarik penyertaan peserta dan pengunjung seramai 30,000 orang. PJ Folklore 2022 juga merupakan usaha sama antara MBPJ dengan Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya Malaysia (MOTAC – kini tiada lagi), International Council of Organization of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts/CIOFF Malaysia), Tourism Selangor, dan Suria FM.
PJ Folklore 2022 merupakan antara usaha bagi mempromosikan bandar raya Petaling sebagai sebuah Kota Seni, dan destinasi pelancongan antarabangsa, selain menghidupkan kawasan Seksyen 52.
Ia juga selaras dengan pelaksanaan Petaling Jaya Smart, Sustainable and Resilient (PJSSR2030), dan merupakan salah satu agenda menjadikan Petaling Jaya sebagai bandar raya mampan.
Program lain termasuklah PJ Fight Night, Pocket Show – melibatkan dua pusat beli-belah, iaitu One Utama Shopping Centre dan Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre, Asian Food Festival, pameran busana dan pelbagai jualan, persembahan Wayang Kulit (Pok Chu), Dikir Barat (Issey), dan persembahan kebudayaan antarabangsa.
Persembahan kebudayaan antarabangsa, serta persembahan Wayang Kulit (Pok Chu) dan Dikir Barat (Issey) turut memeriahkan majlis perasmian PJ Folklore 2022, sebelum kemunculan Wings.
Penganjuran PJ Folklore yang masuk kali ketujuh, telah mendapat pengiktirafan pada 2018 sebagai program pertukaran kebudayaan antarabangsa oleh MOTAC. Untuk PJ Folklore 2022, MOTAC sekali lagi memberikan pengiktirafan dengan menyampaikan Sijil Insentif Promosi PJ Folklore 2022 Menerusi Kalendar Pelancongan Malaysia.
Konsert WINGS Ceritera Rakyat adalah antara 31 program secara percuma yang mengisi PJ Folklore 2022. Amat mengejutkan juga dengan kehadiran beribu orang semata mata untuk menyaksikan konsert julung kali Kumpulan Wings di Petaling Jaya ini.
Kali ini Kumpulan Wings hadir membuat persembahan dengan 7 lagi menraik dan satu lagu bonus dan harapan kerana permintaan dari pengunjung yang hadir sanggup menunggu di dalam hujan untuk menyaksikan konsert Kumpulan Wings ini.
Kesimpulannya, Konsert Wings ini menyebabkan fenomena beribu orang memenuhi di “Foklore Festival PJ” ini. Rata-rata yang hadir merindukan aksi persembahan kumpulan wings sebelum ini semasa PKP 2019-2021 ramai yang terkesan tidak dapat menyaksikan persembahan seperti ini. Ini adalah peluang mereka berkumpul kembali namun tetap mengikut sop dengan pemakaian Topeng penutup muka penting. Perasmian “Foklore Festival PJ” kali ini telah berjaya dengan jayanya.

The 29 piece set comes with dinner plates, soup plates, side plates, soup bowls, serving plates and bowls, with smaller pieces also available in the collection.
